Update – September 2015 Breast Cancer Patient Education Act Coalition

[Back to Breast Cancer Patient Education Act]

To date, 35 national and regional organizations have joined the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in our quest to educate breast cancer patients about their reconstructive and prosthetic options.

As you know, Senators Roy Blunt (R-NO) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) reintroduced the bill in May, quickly followed by a reintroduced in the House by Representatives Leonard Lance (R-NJ-07) and Kathy Castor (D-FL-14).  Over the summer, ASPS met with almost every member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee to educate them and gain further support for this important legislation.  Since our initial outreach to you in May, we have gained 15 new cosponsors in the House.  Current bill sponsors include:

* Original Cosponsor

When Congress returns to DC in September, ASPS will begin meeting with previous cosponsors from the 113th Congress who have not yet signed on, as well as members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the GOP Doctor’s Caucus.  The Breast Cancer Patient Education Act is one of ASPS’s top federal advocacy priorities and we will continue to work with members of Congress to build momentum for this legislation.

As a member of the Breast Cancer Patient Education Act Coalition, we greatly appreciate any additional support you can build for this important legislation.  Please feel free to use the ASPS Issue Brief during your meetings with members of Congress.  We have also included a version in Word if you would like to add your logo and personalize the brief.

Please let us know if there are other patient advocacy organizations who should become involved in our efforts.  We will gladly reach out to them and provide them with information on this important cause.

Thank you so much for your continued support.  We look forward to working with you as we build momentum for H.R.2540/S.1192, the Breast Cancer Patient Education Act of 2015.
